This apartment renovation project aimed to enhance the outdoor living space of the unit within a multi-storey apartment building by reimagining the balcony area. The primary objective was to maximise the usability of the balcony by incorporating a system that allows it to seamlessly open up or close to maximise the views of the city harbour while allowing for privacy and protection from the external elements.
The project presented unique challenges due to the apartment’s location. Access and buildability were tricky, necessitating the use of pre-constructed elements that could be transported to site. An additional requirement of the design was for it to align with the overall aesthetic of the original apartment building. It needed to be sympathetic and consistent with the scope of the apartment building in order for it to be approved by an external design council.
