Clifftop Pool

Project Gallery

The existing home, while generous in scale, felt dark and dated, with its exceptional views understated and largely disconnected from the interior spaces. The project focused on transforming the house into a lighter, more open and connected environment that fully embraces its setting.

The main living area glazing was replaced with a single, curved glass window, creating uninterrupted sightlines and framing the expansive outlook beyond. The pool is carefully aligned with this curved window, visually extending toward the ocean and Rangitoto Island in the distance. As one relaxes in the living area, the boundary between interior and exterior is blurred, drawing the eye across the reflective surface of the pool to the water beyond.

The pool is intentionally restrained, sitting discreetly within the site and nestled among the beautifully mature pōhutukawa trees. These provide a sense of shelter, privacy, and a strong connection to the natural coastal environment, allowing the architecture, landscape, and view to exist in quiet balance.
