Urban embrace Remuera Renovation
Project Gallery
The existing home felt as if you were entering through the rear of the building. It was closed in, dark and underwhelming. The interior was disconnected, closed off and forces you to live towards the south end of the home instead of capturing the amazing views, sunshine and openness to the north.
The design intent was to create a more open and inviting, double void entry between the bedroom and living area wings. The connecting space was to be a modern transition from the current traditional Architectural materiality. Dark vertical lines and large joinery elongate the entry void. As you enter the space you are greeted by elegantly curved stairs with contrasting dramatically textured finishes. A large feature skylight sits perched high above the sitting nook, drawing you up the stairs and through the space. The feature skylight creates a dynamic interplay of shadow and sun while visually opening the space to the sky above. The large entry window frames the landscape beyond.
At its heart the home embraces open plan living, where flowing spatial arrangements foster a sense of seamless connection. The central living areas are expansive and airy, defined by clean lines that invite light to move freely through the space.
The existing roof terrace was grey and dated. The metal balustrading was replaced with glazed panels to further enhance the sense of openness and allow for unobstructed views out over the pool and tennis court while inviting the light in. The weathered tiles were replaced with decking to soften the space and elongate the internal flooring lines. The formal living room opens out onto the roof terrace connecting the spaces. A new dark modern louvre structure frames the roof terrace acting as a transitional between the internal spaces and external landscape. The sleek support structure provides unobstructed views of the cityscape and Rangitoto beyond. There was careful consideration to make sure the master bedroom remained sunny while capturing the views of the city scape and landscape beyond.

Kitchen Architecture - Toni Roberts

"What started out as dreams for a new kitchen for our house, ultimately resulted in a full renovation and a stunning “as new” house. We initially used a draftsman to come up with renovation plans and ideas of different layouts but nothing seemed to work. After Covid, we had time to rethink what we needed and decided we needed some architectural expertise to help bring our vision to life and, perhaps, to come up with options we had not considered. We met with Romé and her team and appreciated them listening to us and being creative. Buildology was able to look at the existing floor plan, understand what we wanted to create, and come up with a design that was practical and functional but also had the wow factor we wanted. We knew it was the right design for our home from the moment we saw it. With Romé’s expertise, she managed to create the open plan look we loved, as well as feature curved stairs. Her design took an awkward space that no one could solve and gave us a comfortable casual nook. She was also able to recommend builders she had worked with previously, which also helped smooth the renovation process for us and gave us confidence Romé was always available to answer questions along the way and helped ensure the renovation ran as smoothly as possible. In an industry known for over-runs, her ability to stick to a budget was welcome too. We have no hesitation in recommending Buildology and would be more than happy to work with Romé again in the future."
